In the first few days on this year alone, I’ve heard a huge buzz of new and limited-edition Vegan products all over the UK. From the Vegan sausage roll at Gregg’s that caused Piers Morgan to go into a meltdown, to M&S Releasing 60 new vegan products, Sainsbury’s releasing a new 25 product vegan range and even McDonald’s are bringing out a Vegan wrap/ happy meal.
This blog post isn’t really about all of that though. Instead I’ll be listing where you can go to take advantage of Veganuary in London this January. I’m talking limited edition menu items and special Vegan Deals that may only be around for this January (unless we can get enough demand going for them!)
So without further ado – Here’s some of my top picks for where to go during Veganuary in London, 2019!
Note * = There is an interactive map at the bottom of the post to show the locations of all places mentioned
Tibits
View this post on Instagram
Firstly, Tibits is a well-known vegetarian/ Vegan restaurant that serves up a buffet style selection of over 40 dishes including not only brekkie options but a huge array of salads, soups, mains and desserts where you pay-by-weight. Usually the restaurant serves up an 80/20 ratio of Vegan to vegetarian offerings. This January however they are getting rid of all Veggie options in favour of a fully vegan line-up for Veganuary in London . You only have to head on over to their Instagram to see their variety of offerings and with two London locations (One West and one South East) you can take your pick. You might even see me there at some point because this is definitely top of my list for when I get back to London!

Gillray’s Steakhouse

Now on the complete opposite end of the spectrum to Tibits is Gillray’s. This is a well-known Steak establishment usually offering up a VERY different type of fare… This may not be the first choice for long-term Ethical Vegans however if you’re just taking your first steps into Veganism or a plant-based diet for non-ethical reasons
At £28 for a three-course menu, the price isn’t too bad and although there are no vegan Steaks on offer ( which would be a big ask anyway, let’s be honest) – The menu choices seem quite interesting with a vegan scotch egg served along-side a ‘Bubble and squeak sweetcorn puree and chard vegetables’ and also a Lime Meringue that somehow manages to include whipped avocado and yet still sounds delicious to me.

All Star Lanes X Biff’s Jack Shack
View this post on Instagram
For those of you who are a more interested in a food/entertainment duo then look no further than All Star Lanes. For anyone that says Bowling has gone out of style, to you- I say FOR SHAME! Now All Star Lanes aren’t the cheapest of Bowling locations around with the costs of a game between around £7.50-10 at off-peak vs peak times. BUT this January they have teamed up with Biff’s Jack Shack with their delicious and indulgent vegan ‘junk food’ made from Jackfruit to offer up Jackfruit ‘wingz’ of a couple varieties, a Vegan burger and some ‘dirty fries’. They’ll be serving this Vegan menu up at all their locations between Jan 8 – Feb 3rd . Thrashing someone at bowling and celebrating with delicicous vegan junk food- what could be better?!

OXO Vegan Afternoon Tea
View this post on Instagram
From Bowling and junk food to an afternoon tea, OXO are offering up a touch of class to Veganuary in London this January. With its trendy Southbank location overlooking the Thames with amazing views of London , OXO Tower restaurant is already a location worth bragging about but this year from 2nd- 31st January they will be serving up a Vegan Afternoon tea including sandwiches, plant-based savoury dishes including vegan sausage rolls ( Piers Morgan eat your heart out!) along-side the usual scones and dainty ‘sweets’ like coconut & pineapple cake At £35 PP without fizz and £45 with , it’s not the cheapest of offerings but we all deserve to treat ourselves some times.

To Visit: OXO Tower Restaurant – Oxo Tower Wharf, Barge House St, South Bank, London SE1 9PH
Bonus Entry: For those of you Interested in other Vegan options of the Afternoon Tea variety then be sure to check out Cafe Forty One at La Suite West Hotel. Fairly new to the game and London’s only Vegan French patisserie, serving up a vegan menu focusing on seasonal, healthy options with multi-course options and an afternoon tea. And in celebration of Veganuary in London they are offering up 25% off 2-course meals and Afternoon tea ( usually £35 pp) https://www.lasuitewest.com/cafe-forty-one-vegan-french-patisserie.html
Bread Street Kitchen (Gordon Ramsey)
View this post on Instagram
It’s Official – Gordo is offering up a Vegan menu in one of his Restaurants for the first time ever. Now for someone who has watched ALOT of programmes with Ramsey in, I know he’s had his criticisms towards Vegan food – but that’s what makes this even more exciting for me to see him embracing the change. Plus, the options up for grabs look delicious; From a Charred aubergine, pine nut, pesto and tomato sauce pizza to a delicious sounding chocolate avocado and almond mousse. All available till February 13th.

Sushi Samba
View this post on Instagram
Kicking things up a notch are Sushi Samba a Peruvian, Brazilian & Japanese blend fine dining establishment. With a new location in Covent Garden, this is already a spot known for its interesting and unique offerings. Now they are not the cheapest place on the block. A friend recently went for their ‘taste of Samba’ multi-course meal and at £82 PP it’s a little (okay a lot) above my modest student budget. However, for anyone looking for the excuse to give them a visit then this Veganuary in London might be the perfect chance. With offerings of Nigiri and maki alongside dishes including ‘Moqueca Mista’ a Chimichurri rice with coconut milk, lime and served along-side seasonal vegetables it’s not your usual sushi place.

Comptoir V
View this post on Instagram
Comptoir V are no joke in the Vegan game. As an already 100% Vegan establishment, they know what they’re doing. However every Veganuary they like to pull something extra special out the bag. Last year they created a ‘meat feast’ theme for all newbie Vegans. This year they have partnered up with Mindful Chef, the UK’s most popular heathy recipe boxes, to create a special Veganuary menu. This includes a harissa cauliflower with herby lentils and tahini. According to their social media the menu will be available from 14th January for a month and will all include some desserts options, not to mention the various cocktail offerings!

To Visit: 1 Keslake Mansions, 12 Station Terrace, London NW 10 5RU
For my next few options they aren’t necessarily only ‘Veganuary in London’-based as they are bigger chains – but worth the mention, I think.
TGI Fridays
View this post on Instagram
I have to admit that for TGI Fridays, vegetarian and Vegan options have NEVER seemed a high priority. BUT it’s a big ‘family favourite’ so I’m happy to see what they’re bringing to the game this Veganuary. On offer is a Vegan burger that is meant to (I can’t prove this as I haven’t tried one yet) taste like the real thing and even ‘bleeds’ (courtesy of beetroot juice of course!). Now this, once again, might not be a good choice for seasoned ethical Vegans but for those having cravings then it will be available from 7th January for £10.99. Having already trialed it in the Stated with a huge success, fingers crossed it becomes a permanent addition to the menu over here in the UK.

Pizza Hut
View this post on Instagram
I probably don’t even need to mention this one. I’ve seen this splashed all over the Vegan FB Pages and the internet- but just in-case… Pizza hut have brought out their own Vegan offering for January in shape of a ‘ Jack n’ Ch**se’ pizza ( from £11.20). The pizza has a tomato base, Violife cheese, sweetcorn, red onions, peppers and BBQ Jackfruit with additional BBQ drizzle. At the moment it’s a Veganuary limited-edition special however if they manage to sell more than 10,000 then it will become a permanent feature on the menu (How amazing would it be to be able to choose BBQ jackfruit for a vegan CYO?!). It’s available at over 250 locations too so grab one while you can and help it become a permanent feature!

Yo! Sushi
View this post on Instagram
Okay so this isn’t necessarily a Veganuary thing as such but Yo! Sushi have recently added a lot of new Vegetarian and Vegan offerings to their menu, including starting up ‘Green Wednesdays’. During Green Wednesdays all Veg dishes are £2.30. There are up to 20 options from Pumpkin Katsu curry, Vegetable gyoza and Mushroom teriyaki burger to Yasai temaki (a veggie hand-roll) and the usual veggie sushi rolls. In certain locations I’ve noticed that they are even offering up ‘Freaks’ Vegan desserts.
And now, for January only, if you have a Unidays account then you can visit a Yo! Sushi near you on a Sunday after 3pm and receive ALL food at 50% off. This makes even the most expensive dishes on the menu under £3. So a perfect and affordable way to celebrate Veganuary in London this January. (Plus Omnis, pescatarians, veggie and vegans alike all have something to go for!)

Bonus Option: Frankie & Benny’s have also upped their game by adding some new vegan options to their menu, including a burger, pizza with vegan chicken pieces , Vegan mac n’ cheese, chicken-less nuggets, a chicken parm dish and more…
