It’s a North Wales Takeover! 🏴 And you guys know I couldn’t resist trying the new 🌱 Vegan restaurant @theeatinggorilla in Penrhyn!
Vegan cuisine isn’t a priority up here ( There’s Voltaire in Bangor, which I’ve reviewed HERE. Otherwise it’s fairly slim pickings) , so it’s always mega-exciting to hear about a new business to support.
Alongside smoothies, juices and a range of baked goods, they offer burgers, pizzas, nachos and healthier options including buddha bowls. All served by friendly staff in a warm, inviting ‘cafe-style’ space.
What we ordered from The Eating Gorilla, Penrhyn:
🤤 Hummus Trio – ( plain, pesto & sundried tomato flavours w/ pitta chips)
👍 The pesto hummus was delicious and flavourful and the sundried tomato one, though a lot subtler in taste, still had a slight zing and was my favourite. Unfortunately, the regular hummus had a large chunk of un-blended raw garlic in it ( which I mistook for a chickpea). That was certainly a surprise to the palate. Luckily, I looooove garlic. Plus, the ratio of hummus to pitta was perfect. So overall, super impressed!
💷 £6
🤤Garlic Mushroom Pizza ( 10″ w/ a trio of mushrooms, garlic & herb butter+ mozzarella style cheese)
👍 I’ve had some truly AMAZING vegan pizza’s so was slightly let down by this. I think the ratio of ‘cheese’ to tomato sauce was off so the sauce overpowered the toppings slightly, especially with such a ‘delicate’ flavoured ‘cheese’. I think there possibly needs to be slightly less sauce with slightly more cheese ( possibly a cheese blend even). Also, R & I both agree the mushrooms could have packed more of a garlic punch. That didn’t stop us taking our leftovers home and devouring them a few hours later though. I’d be happy to go back and give the other flavour options a go.
💷 £8
.
🤤 Sticky Buffalo Cauliflower Wings 👍 Come on, Come all! Let me introduce you to the star of the show. R & I were practically fighting over who would get the last one ( like a gentleman he halved it). Deliciously crispy cauliflower wings with a kick of heat ( but not too much!) followed by the sweetness of the maple glaze. Yum!😍 These are the first time I’ve tried cauliflower wings and, from now on, I’ll be ordering some whenever I spot them on a menu.
💷 £5 ( we’d be happy to pay slightly more for a larger portion!)
I also got a delicious Hawaiian Smoothie which was super tropical and delicious!
