Being half Turkish, the cuisine is in my blood! And even with it being such a meat-heavy diet, I take SO MUCH joy in Turkish meat-free mezze dishes!
Mezze ‘small plates’ / tapas-style dishes are basically one of my favourite things ever. You get to try so many different dishes in just one meal. Win-win situation for sure!!😍 On the unfortunate side, Turkish cuisine isn’t the most Vegan-friendly as even the meat-free dishes often contain cheese or yogurt etc. It may be worth phoning to ask what exactly is Vegan though as a few of the options listed Vegetarian seem like they should be Vegan ( like the Dolma)
The plates shown here are actually part of a mezze feast shared by R, myself and my mother at @kahyalondon in Fulham, so not everything shown is meat-free. But I thought I’d include everything, so you can see exactly what we ordered!
What we ordered at Kahya, Fulham:
🤤 Kisir (V) ( crushed wheat w/ herbs, tomato, spring onion, peppers & olive oil/lemon juice dressing)
👍 Almost like a couscous salad, I love Kisir as a healthy side dish, with a fairly subtle but nice tomato and herb taste.

.
🤤 Sigara Boregi ( V) ( filo pastry filled w/ feta, parsley & herbs)
👍 I grew up on Turkish pastries with borek being my all-time favourite savoury pastry. These small ‘cigarette’ shaped spring rolls are delicious filled with feta and herbs! Such a simple but delicious dish!

.
🤤 Patlican Ezme (V) ( An aubergine, yogurt, olive oil & lemon juice dip)
👍 Aubergine and I have a love thing going on right now, so I obviously LOVE this aubergine dip! Yumm! slightly tangy from the yogurt but also creamy and delicious!
💷 £5.50
.
🤤 Kalamar ( Calamari w/ tartar sauce & small salad)
👍 You all know I don’t really eat seafood but calamari is one of the only dishes I’ll nibble at. This was so good! The Calamari wasn’t at all chewy ( which can happen in the UK) and the batter was light and well-seasoned!
💷 £7
.
🤤 Hummus Kavurma ( pan-fried lamb served with hummus)
👍 Without even having to touch the lamb, I was able to eat the hummus. Yumm! Can’t go wrong with fresh, homemade hummus!
💷 £7
.
🤤 Sarmali Lamb Beyti ( minced lamb & garlic in bread, served w/ tomato sauce and garlic yogurt)
👍 I didn’t touch this meat-heavy main dish that R chose but if the contented smile was anything to go by ( and the loud praise), then this was definitely a dish that impressed/ he plans on having it again ASAP!
💷 £15
